When families ask me for a location that’s beautiful, unique, and actually fun for kids, one place immediately comes to mind- Flowing Well Park in Carmel. If you’re looking for Flowing Well Family Photos, this hidden gem is one of my favorite summer locations.
This sweet family of three came completely prepared to embrace the adventure, and it made for the most joyful evening together.

Their little guy was all smiles from the moment we started. He loves cars, so naturally his favorite toys came along for this adventure. Mom and Dad also packed snacks, drinks, shoes that could go in the water, and even a change of clothes.
That may sound like a lot, but honestly- it was perfect.
Instead of worrying about getting wet, everyone could simply enjoy the experience. Their son splashed through the creek, laughed with mom and dad, and had the freedom to just be a kid. Those are the moments that make my favorite family photos.
As a family photographer, my goal has never been to have everyone stand perfectly still and smile at the camera (because not many toddlers do that!). Of course we’ll capture a few of those classic portraits, but most of our session is spent playing together so your photos reflect your family’s real personalities and connections.

One of the things that makes Flowing Well Park so special is its natural artesian well. Fresh groundwater flows continuously from the well year-round creating a peaceful setting that’s unlike anywhere else in central Indiana. Many visitors stop to fill water bottles from the flowing spring before enjoying the park’s trails and creek. The mature trees, flowing water, and natural landscape make it feel like you’ve escaped the city for a little while. https://www.carmelclayparks.com/parks/flowing-well-park/

Summer family photos don’t have to mean standing in a hot field while everyone sweats.
Flowing Well Park stays noticeably cooler thanks to the shade from the large trees and Cool Creek running through the park. And the best part? Kids can splash in the water! It turns the heat into part of the fun instead of something everyone is trying to survive.
If you’re planning family photos in June, or July, this is one of my favorite recommendations.

Most outdoor family sessions are scheduled about one to two hours before sunset because that’s when the light is softest and most flattering.
During the summer, that often means a 7:30pm start time- which isn’t always ideal for families with young children.
One of my favorite things about Flowing Well Park is that all of the beautiful tree cover creates gorgeous light earlier in the evening. We can often begin around 6:00pm, making it much easier to work around bedtime while still getting beautiful light.
That’s a win for everyone!

If you’ve had a session with me before, you know we don’t spend the evening standing stiffly and saying “cheese.”
We play games.
We explore.
We laugh.
We snuggle.
At Flowing Well Park, the creek naturally becomes part of the adventure. Kids love splashing, throwing rocks, finding treasures, and watching the water flow around them. Every activity creates authentic smiles and natural interactions that simply can’t be forced.
The result is a gallery full of memories that actually feel like your family.

This family absolutely nailed it. And here’s what I’d recommend bringing:
Come expecting to get a little wet and to have a lot of fun!

Without doubt, June and July.
The warm weather makes playing in the creek extra enjoyable, and the shady trees provide beautiful green scenery all summer long.

If you’re looking for family photos that feel relaxed, playful, and full of genuine smiles, Flowing Well Park might be the perfect location for your family.
I’d love to help you create photos that capture your family exactly as you are in this season of life- playing together, laughing together, and making memories you’ll treasure for years to come.
If this sounds like the perfect fit for your family, I’d love to hear from you and start planning your Flowing Well Family Photos!
